"There is so much more to love than black and white." - Amos Lee
That's one of my favorite lines from Amos Lee's music - he's a great singer-songwriter I've listened to for years. And he's right, there is so much more to love, and life itself, than black and white...once you know Jesus.
Before a heart knows Christ, life is ONLY black and white; either you know Him and walk with Him, or you don't. But see, once you know Him, the Gospel changes e v e r y t h i n g .
HOPE isn't black and white anymore. "I will be hopeful if [insert circumstance outcome]." You can have hope no matter what.
LOVE isn't black and white anymore. "I am loved if [insert condition]." You can be loved unconditionally.
JOY isn't black and white anymore. "I will be joyful if [insert condition]." You can have unending joy free from conditions or circumstances.
CHANGE isn't black and white anymore. "We/I/This will only change if and when [insert condition]." Things can change courtesy of a power outside of yourself regardless of all else.
Here's how...
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly." - John 10:10
Abundant life...life in color. The black and white opens up into this world of color; even the smallest details of life can become vibrant, even where darkness used to reign there can be life.
To the believer...I pray you're living life in color! I pray you're walking with Him, and discovering the abundance found in Jesus. If not, start today. Open the Bible, talk to God, lay down anything holding you back.
To the one who doesn't know the beauty and wonder found in Jesus yet...let today be the day. Life doesn't have to be what it's become. It doesn't have to be so black and white. You don't have to carry the weight and darkness of this world and your sin. Your hope doesn't have to come from surrounding circumstances. There is more to life than what you're seeing right now. Find it in Christ alone.
